Velma D. Randall

Velma D. Randall, 83, of Grand Island, formerly of Clarks, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Golden Living Center – Grand Island Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island.  Funeral services will be Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.  Reverend Janet Burgel will officiate.  Burial will be in Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel near Clarks.  Visitation will be Friday, August 5, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. 

Velma was born on May 31, 1928 to George and Martha (Wright) Bush in Polk County.  She attended school at District 70 in Polk County until the seventh grade.  The family moved to Merrick County in 1940, and she attended District 55, and Clarks High School, graduating in 1945.   

She was united in marriage to Samuel R. Randall in Clarks, NE at the Methodist minister’s home on November 28, 1947 with Don and Elaine Rice as attendants.  The couple lived in Clarks, and was blessed with two daughters, Marilyn Kay, and Nancy Jean. 

Velma held many different jobs including Mel Burruss’ Café, Solls Café, and Al and Bessie Peterson’s Café.  She then assisted as a teacher’s aide for the trainable intellectually disabled children, and worked at Benders Grocery.  She also drove truck and became a dispatcher and weighed trucks at Overland’s of Clarks. 

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #4832 serving as chaplain for several years. 

Survivors include her husband, Sam Randall of Central City, NE, two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Clyde Church of Grand Island, NE; and Nancy and Mark Myhre of Iron River, WI, grandchildren, Jason and Jody Church of Omaha, NE; and Jared and Elaine Church of Grand Island, NE, great grandchildren, John and Jackson Church of Omaha, NE, and Casey, Nicole, Brandon, and Kaylie of Grand Island, NE, a sister, Irene Schultz of Central City, NE, and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Melvin Bush, sisters and spouses, Margaret and Harold Hewitt and Doris and Glenn Wieseman, a brother-in-law, LeRoy Schultz, a son-in-law, Ken Boehm, and a grandson, Adam Drew Church.
