Gerline Mary Reika Maynard
Gerline Mary Reika Maynard, 88, of Central City, NE, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Fullerton. Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2:00 P.M., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City with Pastor Kevin McReynolds officiating. Graveside services will be Saturday, April 30, at 2:00 P.M., at Fairview Cemetery in Grant, NE with Reverend Ronald Krause officiating. There will be no visitation. Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is assisting the family with arrangements.
“Geri” was born on September 12, 1922, near Kiowa, NE to John E. and Minnie F. (Getz) Frosh. The family moved to a farm near Roscoe, NE, in 1932. She grew up and attended schools in the Deshler and Roscoe areas. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogallala.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Malmkar on October 2, 1949 in Ogallala, NE. The couple lived on a farm south of Brandon, NE, and raised two sons, Mark and Lon. Kenneth died on September 24, 1959.
“Geri” moved to Grant, NE. She was united in marriage to Walter P. Maynard, Jr., on March 9, 1963 in Grant, Nebraska. The couple lived and worked on a farm near Champion, Nebraska, and had a daughter, Adele. In 1974, they moved to Imperial, then in 1980, to Central City.
She was a full time mother and homemaker, and was very active in church. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City. She enjoyed dancing and music.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Chris Malmkar of Kearney, NE; Lon and Mary Malmkar of Milford, NE, a daughter, Adele Maynard of Central City, NE, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, LaVerne and Evelyn Frosh of Roscoe, NE, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, an infant son, Caudy Jo Malmkar, and a brother, Elmo Frosh.
