Ken G. Kohl

Ken G. Kohl, 66, of Central City, NE, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at the Veterans Medical Center in Grand Island.  Funeral services will be Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Lonnie Logan officiating.  Burial will be in Burke Cemetery near Central City.  American Legion Lone Tree Post #6 will perform Military rites.  Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.  The family requests casual dress. 

Ken was born on April 16, 1945 in Norfolk, NE, to LaVerne and Marcella (Faust) Kohl.  He attended Beemer, NE schools. 

He entered the United States Army in 1964.  He served two terms in Vietnam and served one term in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1972. 

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Mae Lovejoy on October 2, 1970.  The couple was blessed with three children, David, Mechell, and Scott.  The family lived in California until 1979, when they moved to Central City, NE.  Ken worked at Atlantic Homes in Central City and Overland Sand and Gravel.  He was a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the American Legion.  He enjoyed visiting with the racing family and drivers.  He liked all racing, but sprint car racing was the ultimate treat.  He enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and helping at the Senior Center.  His family and grandchildren were most important to him. 

Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn Kohl of Central City, NE, daughter and son-in-law, Mechell and Matt Djernes, and son and daughters-in-law, Scott and Maria Kohl and Michelle Kohl all of Central City, NE, nine grandchildren, Lakin, Colton, Allison, Dillon, Josh (Amanda), Ashly, Toby, Zack, and Andrew, two great-grandchildren, Brady and Bronson, his mother, Marcella (Russ) Mowinkle of Beemer, NE, four sisters, Diane Lemieux of Council Bluffs, IA; Patty Chudomelka of Council Bluffs, IA; Nancy (Dennis) Gatzemeyer of Bancroft, NE; and Judy (Darrell) Fuhr of Leigh, NE, a brother-in-law, Paul Reppert of West Point, NE , two sisters-in-law, Vickie (Dave) Thomas of Central City, NE; and Linda Lambert of Hordville, NE, and two brothers-in-law, Ed (Dixie) Lovejoy of Hordville, NE, and Randy (Nancy) Lovejoy of Winters, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne Kohl, his son, David Kohl, a sister, Sharon Reppert and his father and mother-in-law, Howard and Ila Lovejoy.
