Diane M. Horton

Diane M. Horton, 59, of Central City, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at her home with her family around her.  Funeral services will be Monday, February 14, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Scott Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday, February 13, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.   

Diane was born on September 15, 1951, at San Diego Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA, to Lester P. Smith and Ann L. (Snyder) Lampson.  She grew up at Masonic Home in Fremont, NE, and received her education at Fremont through the 11th grade.  She graduated from Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, CA on June 16, 1969. 

She was united in marriage to Thomas E. Horton Sr. on August 19, 1971 in Fremont, NE.  The couple made their home in Fremont where Diane worked at Fremont Memorial County Hospital.  They moved to St. Paul, and then in 1982, to Central City.  Diane was employed at various places during this time.  She worked at Central City Care Center, Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital, and Hall County Correctional Center.  From 1995 to 2000, she was employed at Hamilton Manor nursing home in Aurora, and from 2001 until 2010 at Wal-Mart North in Grand Island as a sales associate.   

She was a member of Assembly of God (Abundant Life) in Grand Island, NE, and her family and her faith meant the world to her. 

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Heather Horton Jr., of Central City, NE, her daughter, Heather (Horton) Clauff of Central City, NE, a step-daughter, Leanne (Horton) Forster of Lakewood, CO, four grandchildren, four sisters, Linda Brohimer of San Antonio, TX; Mona Smith of Spring Cove, FL; Rhonda Albers of Genoa, NE; and Donna Smith of Genoa, NE, her aunt and uncle,  Robert and Sandy Snyder of Fremont, NE, cousin, Terry Vanshur of Fremont, NE, and special friends, Thomas E. Horton Sr., of Genoa, NE, Carol Bang of Fremont, NE, and Mary Curfman of Alda, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, David L. Smith.
