Roma D. Fuehrer

Roma D. Fuehrer, 81, of Central City, died Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, Nebraska surrounded by her family.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 15, at 10:00 A.M. at Archer Zion United Methodist Church, near Archer.  Reverend Rich Savage will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.  Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.  

Roma was born on August 23, 1929 to Fred Ehlers and Adelia M. (Harder) Ehlers in Grand Island, Nebraska.  She grew up in Grand Island and received her education at Grand Island Public Schools.  She graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1948.   

She was united in marriage to Charles Fuehrer on October 23, 1949, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island.  The couple lived on a farm near Worms, Nebraska, until retiring in 1993 and moving to Central City.  Charles died in February of 1999.  Roma was a dedicated homemaker, and a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.   

Roma was a member of Archer Zion United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and she volunteered at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City.  She enjoyed baking, reading, and playing cards with her friends, children, and grandchildren.   

Survivors include her sons, Mike Fuehrer and special friend Judy Hansen of Archer, NE; Russ (Cindy) Fuehrer of Grand Island, NE; and Randy (Kim) Fuehrer of Abie, NE, daughters, Susan (George) Altenburg of Cove, OR; Dixie Fuehrer of Grand Island, NE, Mike and Joyce Rice of Archer, NE, whom she also considered to be her children.  Roma had eleven grandchildren, Dusty, Jacinda, Codi, Andy, Sam, Ian, Kyleigh, Russell, Andrea, Natasha, and Jordan, five great-grandchildren, Maddie, Ayden, Janessah, Cooper, and Dallas, a brother, Don Ehlers of Omaha, NE, a sister, Elaine Edwards of Grand Island, NE, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cal and Marlene Fuehrer of Grand Island, NE, a sister-in-law, Addie Petton of Hemet, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Fuehrer, and a brother, “Dutch” Ehlers.
