Letha J. Fry
Letha J.
Fry, 79, of Chapman, Nebraska died Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at
First Baptist Church in Chapman with Pastors Beth Gregory and Donna Carpenter
officiating. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday,
January 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Letha was born on May 19, 1931 in Bucktail, Nebraska to James M. and Katie Belle
(Kirkpatrick) Leeper. She grew up near Paxton, Nebraska. At the age of 14, Letha
and her youngest sister went to live in the Children’s Home in Lincoln,
Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Francis (Bud) Fry on June 2, 1950, in
Hebron, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with four children. They lived in
various places in both Iowa and Nebraska before settling in Juniata, NE. After
the children were raised, Bud and Letha moved to Grand Island and Letha babysat
several children that still keep in touch with her. Later, they moved to Chapman
where they could be closer to the beekeeping business they ran with their son
Rob. Letha loved getting up early to sell honey at the Fall market in Grand
Island for many years.
Letha and her husband enjoyed spending time with their family and weekend
fishing at Harlan County Reservoir. She enjoyed embroidering and her most
precious times were spent with her children and grandchildren. In more recent
years, her favorite thing to do was to sit on the front porch with her husband
during the summer.
Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim
and Cindy Fry of Moreno Valley, CA; Robert and Micki Fry of Grand Island, NE;
Timothy and Tammy Fry of Santa Marquarita, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, RoxAnn
and Robert Worley of Elkhorn, NE; twelve grandchildren, eleven
great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. Letha was very close to
Bud’s family and was always considered just another sister.
Letha was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; three sisters, Delia,
Jessie, Dorothy and Laura and one brother, Raymond.
The family would like to thank the caring people of Chapman who gave their
support and friendship to our mother over the years. Letha found great joy in
being with her friends and family. She will be remembered for the love and
compassion she had for others. May she rest in peace with her beloved husband.
