George
H. Ferris, 83, of Grand Island, NE, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Saint
Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be Thursday,
April 14, at 10:30 A.M. at Fairview United Methodist Church near Central City.
The Reverend Janet Burgel will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday,
April 13, from 5 – 7 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
George was born on December 6, 1927, near Archer, Nebraska to Lee J. and Eva (Hathaway) Ferris. He grew up on a farm near Archer and graduated from Central City High School in 1945. He continued his education at Nebraska Wesleyan University, graduating in 1949.
He was united in marriage to Kathryn L. Bonness on June 21, 1953 at Archer, Nebraska. The couple lived on the family farm.
George was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where he was very active and held numerous church offices. He was also involved with many community projects. In 2000, the couple moved to Grand Island, Nebraska, and George got involved with a carving club. He also enjoyed his garden and delivered tomatoes to everyone in his neighborhood.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Ferris, of Grand Island, NE, two daughters, Barb (Alan) Anderson of Van Meter, IA; and Jan Ferris (Laurie Jones) of St. Paul, MN, seven grandchildren, and a sister, Iris Metz of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Rex and Elwin Ferris, and a sister, Vivian Sander.
