Edith I. Erickson

Edith I. Erickson, 90, of Central City, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at her home.  Funeral services will be Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 10:00 A.M. at United Methodist Church in Central City with Pastor Dick Bauer and Reverend Paul Blanchard officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, November 25, from 5 to 7 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City. 

Edith was born on October 17, 1921, to Edward and Julia (Smith) Small, in Central City at her grandfather Smith’s house.  She grew up on Prairie Island, north of Hordville, and received her education at District 30 country school on Prairie Island.  She graduated from Hordville High School in 1939, and continued her education with a 2 year degree from Grand Island Business College.

She was united in marriage to Clayton K. Erickson on May 14, 1941, in Wichita, KS.  Speed and Edie met at a dance at Riverside Park on July 4, 1940. The couple lived in Wichita where Edith was a homemaker, who did ironing and also cared for neighborhood children.   The couple moved to Nebraska in 1956 to farm on Prairie Island. 

She was a seventy five year member of the United Methodist Church in Central City, and belonged to the Merry Mothers Extension Club.  She enjoyed playing the piano, was an excellent seamstress, and also loved to cook for her family.     

Survivors left to cherish her memory are her four sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton D. and Corrine Erickson of Central City, NE; Kent F. and Cheryl Erickson of Clarks, NE; Craig K. and Jan Erickson of Lincoln, NE; Kris E. and Renee’ Erickson of Central City, NE, a daughter and son-in-law, Kande Jo and Tom Lindburg of Hordville, NE, eighteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clayton (Speed) Erickson, who died in February of 2011, her son, Clell Erickson, infant brothers, James and Thomas Small, infant sister, Clara Small, and three half brothers, Glenn, Leland and Harold Small.
