Muriel Fern Schmidt, was born May 13, 1915 in Western, Nebraska to William Fredrick and Minnie (Kelch) Schmidt.  She spent her childhood in Oak, Nelson, Superior, and Crawford, Nebraska where her father owned and operated butcher shops.

Muriel married Ward Irvin Doll, April 9, 1941in Clay Center, Nebraska. At that time, Ward and Muriel purchased two adjoining houses in Fairfield, Nebraska, one for Ward’s mother and one for themselves. Ward and Muriel lived in the house from 1941 until Ward’s death in 1980. After Ward’s death, Muriel continued to live in the home until May of 2006.  Failing health forced her to move to Central City, where she lived with her son until April of 2011, when she moved to Long Term Care in Central City. Muriel was a fine cook and housewife her entire life, and after Ward’s retirement the couple cleaned buildings in Fairfield for something to do. For many years Muriel worked election nights at the local polling place.

She is survived by her son, Larry Doll of Central City, NE,  her brother Lloyd Schmidt of  Kansas City, Missouri, many nieces and nephews, and two very special friends, Wesley and Maxine Shunkwiler of  Fairfield, Nebraska.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents Minnie and William Schmidt and her husband Ward Doll.
