Carrol
M. Ortegren, 73, of Stromsburg, NE, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at York
General Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, at
2:00 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg. Pastor Brenda Pfeifly will
officiate. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery. Stromsburg American Legion
Post 132 will provide military rites. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 12,
from 5-7 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Carrol was born on September 29, 1936 in Central City to Martin E. and Lillie E.
(Anderson) Ortegren. He grew up in Marquette, and was confirmed at the Mamre
Evangelical Free Church and is currently a member of Salem Lutheran Church in
Stromsburg. He received his education in Marquette and graduated from Marquette
High School in 1954.
He entered the United States Army in January of 1955 and was honorably
discharged in December of 1958.
Carrol was united in marriage to Carol Ann Hansen on June 1, 1958 in Archer,
Nebraska.
The couple moved to the family farm where they farmed and raised hogs. He later
entered the fertilizer and fuel business in Hordville. In recent years he owned
and operated Ortegren Heating and Air in Central City. The couple moved to
Stromsburg in 2002.
He was a charter member of the Hordville Lions Club, Hordville Town Board,
Hordville School Board, and also served on the Hordville Volunteer Fire
Department for 26 years. He was currently a member of Salem Lutheran Church in
Stromsburg. Carrol truly loved going fishing with his sons and grandsons. In
recent years he enjoyed showing and driving his 49 Plymouth in local parades.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Ann Ortegren of Stromsburg, NE, two sons and
daughters-in-law, Larry and Gail Ortegren of Omaha, NE; Lennis and Andrea
Ortegren of Stromsburg, NE, a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Dale Dose of
Hampton, NE, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother, Roy Ortegren
of Central City, NE, and a twin sister, Carolyn Hanson of Concord, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law, and one
sister-in-law.
