Walter P. “Walt” Maynard, Jr.
Walter P. “Walt” Maynard, Jr., 80, of Central City, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at York General Hearthstone in York, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 3:00 P.M., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City with Pastor Kevin McReynolds officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 27, at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial, Nebraska with Rev. David Kahle as officiant . There will be no visitation. Wagner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Walt was born on July 14, 1930, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Walter P. and Mildred (Proper) Maynard, Sr. He grew up and lived around Springfield, MA until he was twenty years old. He entered the United States Army on October 24, 1957. He was a Motor pool Sergeant in Manheim, Germany. He was honorably discharged on October 13, 1960.
He was united in marriage to Geraline Mary (Frosh) Malmkar on March 9, 1963 in Ogallala, Nebraska. The couple lived and worked on a farm near Champion, Nebraska, before moving to Imperial. Walter worked for Chase County Road Department for five to six years, and then they moved to Central City in 1980. He worked for the State Department of Roads and retired on July 1, 1995.
Walt was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City. While living in Imperial he was very active in Zion Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion Lone Tree Post #6 of Central City, and was voted as Sergeant of Arms. He enjoyed activities at the Central City Senior Center and was a member of their Board of Directors. He also enjoyed woodworking and small engine repair.
Survivors include his wife Geraline “Geri” Maynard, of Central City, NE, sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Chris Malmkar of Kearney, NE; Lon and Mary Malmkar of Milford, NE; and Robert A. Maynard, a daughter, Adele Maynard of Central City, NE, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ila of MA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Grace, a brother, Donald, and a grandson, Aaron Matthew.
