Marietta “Janet” McMahon, 94, of Central City, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Monsignor Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, October 30, from 5-7 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with a Rosary service to follow at 7:00 P.M. Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements.
Janet was born on September 21, 1915 in Merrick County to Lloyd Thomas and Winniferd Pearl (Farnham) Willeman. She grew up in the Central City - Fairview community. She received her education at District 18 and Central City High School, graduating in 1933. She continued her education at Nebraska Central College and received her teaching certificate. Janet taught at District 39 School.
She was united in marriage to James B. McMahon on June 18, 1938 at St. Michael’s Parish Rectory in Central City. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Central City where Janet remained her entire life until September of this year.
Janet enjoyed being around animals, nature and mowing. She was the one that kept the farmstead looking good with all her care, still mowing at the age of 94. She also liked football, baseball, bowling, china painting, and sewing. She loved attending her grandchildren’s school activities and going to Legion Baseball games.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and served on the Altar Society and the Funeral Committee. She was also a Red Cross Volunteer.
Survivors include two sons, Jack (Carmen) McMahon of Central City, NE; and Tom (Pat) McMahon of Central City, NE, two daughters, Judy (Wendell) Roscoe of Lincoln, NE; and Jo (Dick) Vacek of Ravenna, NE; fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, twin daughters, Agnes and Theresa McMahon, six sisters, Vera Daniels, Pat Ryan, Maxine Erickson, Betty Johnston, Marjorie Chesarek, Etta Ward, one brother, Tom Willeman and two granddaughters, Mary Theresa and Maureen Gerette McMahon, daughters of Tom and Pat McMahon.
