Lorance E. “Butch” Butcher, 82, of Clarks, formerly of Central City, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at Central City Care Center. Funeral services will be Friday, November 20, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Dennis Berlin officiating. Burial will be in the Burke Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday, November 19, from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
Lorance was born on November 9, 1927, in Silver Creek, Nebraska to George W.F. and Alice M. M. (Mills) Butcher. He grew up in Silver Creek until the age of ten, when the family moved to Central City. He received his education in the Central City Public Schools.
He entered the United States Marine Corps in 1945, serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He was united in marriage to Betty Brandenburg on January 30, 1948 in Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple lived in Central City. Lorance was employed by L.L. Haddix Welding Shop for twenty-one years, until 1969, when he started community welding until he retired in 1989. The couple moved to Marquette, then back to Central City, and finally to Clarks, until last January when Lorance moved to Central City Care Center.
Lorance was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aurora, and he served twenty-one years on the Central City Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry Butcher of Central City, NE; Scot and Karen Butcher of Marquette, NE; and Russel and Tami Butcher of Central City, NE, one daughter, Jacque Stutheit of Lincoln, NE, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, an infant daughter, Debra Marie Butcher, three brothers, Clyde Butcher, Leo Butcher and Leanard Butcher, and sisters, Birdie Bush, Louise Stander, and Erma Veed.
