Douglas
L. Brandenburg, 57, of Central City, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at
Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City. Funeral services will be
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.
Deacon Dennis Wiehn and Trent Wagner will be officiating the service. Burial
will be in the Burke Cemetery near Central City. Visitation will be Tuesday,
August 25, from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
Doug was born on October 20, 1951, in Central City, Nebraska to Leo H. and
Sharon L. (Harlow) Brandenburg. He grew up in Central City, and attended country
school. He continued his education at the Central City Public Schools.
He was united in marriage to Susan M. Stokes on March 12, 1971 in Central City.
The couple lived in Central City. Doug was employed by Redman Industries in
Grand Island, where Sue met him by dropping a hammer on his head. In 1970, he
started working at Bonnevilla Homes where he was employed for the last 39 years.
Doug loved animals and gardening. Over the years he raised exotic birds and many
exotic animals. He loved to rescue pets and take them in. He really enjoyed
spending time with his grandchildren. He was a generous man, always willing to
give more than he received. He helped with the Central City Junior Wrestling
Club for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Brandenburg of Central City, NE, sons and
daughter-in-law, Scott and Denise Brandenburg, Brandon Brandenburg, and Jeff and
Jessica Greving Brandenburg, all of Central City, NE, a daughter, Tamera Heuson
of Kearney, NE, ten grandchildren, plus one on the way, brothers, David
Brandenburg of Denver, CO; and Clinton Brandenburg of Central City, NE, and a
sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Charles Clauff of Central City, NE.
His parents, a brother, Steven Brandenburg, and his son, Ryan Brandenburg,
preceded him in death.
